It appears that IE 7 is so inbedded into the OS that there is no way to remove it. I am wishing to go back to IE 6. Does anyone have any idea on how to uninstall 7? I do not mind goin into the registrey if need be. I am runnin media Center addition of XP on my laptop, and XP Pro on my desktop. I am wishin to have IE 6 on both micheens. My friend Brandi is also willing to help, so if sited assistance is needed that is fine, also.
Thanks
John
Have you ever run previous versions of IE on those machines? I upgraded to IE 7, and when I realized I couldn't stand it, I uninstalled it. When I did this, it just rolled IE back to the previous version I had been running. You can probably Google it though, to find some advice.
IE7 is listed in add remove programs as something like windows internet explorer 7. as brooke says, if you have run a previous vertion of IE previously, you can uninstall this from add remove programs, and it will roll back to IE6. You then need to stop your pc from automatically updating it again, and I think you can tell windows update not to show you that particular update again.
I've looked in add/remove programs in both the programs and windows conpoanants, and there is no Windows Internet explorer 7. i've folowed the instructions on "You cannot Uninstall Internet Explorer beta 2", found at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923721
Well, once i validated windows was legit, and ran the removal tool, it said that I couldn't uninstall because Windows internet explorer wasn't installed under this username. Well that doesn't make sense because I'm the only user on this system.
When I tried to folow the instructions from "How to uninstall Internet explorer 7" found at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177
Neither way works. the first waywhich involves doing what both of you suggested does not work due to me not having an entry anyware on here, and the second way doesn't work.
When I tried typeing into run:
%windir%ie7spuninstspuninst.exe
it comes up with:
C:Windowsie7spuninst refers to a lcation that is unavailable.
When i search under windows, I do not see IE 7 or windows internet explorer anyware.
Now what?
Thanks
John
Oh yeah, this is the laptop i'm working on.
The model number is a Dell Inspiron 9400 running Windows Xp Media Center Addition Service Pack 2.
My first gole is to get the laptop fixed before I start on my desktop.
Thanks for any ideas.
